Philosophy of the SalsaApache Black Belt DVD Series

I have often considered the question, "how to relate Salsa training to other formalized and structured athletic training curriculums?".  For that, I find the Martial Arts Tae Kwon Do Belt ranking system to be the most appropiate.  Please keep in mind that the Time to Master table is a rough estimate for someone practicing/training an hour or two at least 3 times per week.  Ladies tend to advance faster in Salsa since the men have to learn and master the lead patterns, though ladies, in that same time can master more styling techniques to fill in and add texture to how they move on every count of the beat.  Look at the best dancers, instructors, and dance team leaders and you are likely to find a similar rate of progress with even the Black Belt dancers performing at different levels.  That being said, there's a lot of fun to be had for dancers and music lovers at all levels, and for the dancers at the higher levels, there's always still a world of new techniques to learn and incorporate into their dancing.  This is a large reason why many have expanded their salsa skills to include hiphop, african, jazz, and other genre's into their Salsa/Mambo repertoire.
